Title: Environmental influence on the growth and shell properties of the Adriatic clam Chamelea gallina

Investigate the effects of environmental conditions on marine species is a critical issue to understand how species will can face future changes. The goal of my research is to investigate the impacts of changing environmental conditions on the clam Chamelea gallina, that has a great economical relevance in the Mediterranean Sea. My previous studies along a latitudinal gradient in the Adriatic Sea showed that shells from the warmest population resulted to be thinner, more porous with a reduction in shell density and an increase in fragility. Thanks to the Assemble Plus Program I have enhanced my research with controlled aquaria experiments in CIIMAR, by analyzing combined effects of different pH, temperatures and salinity on the growth and shell properties of C. gallina.
