OCEANUS SEMINAR SERIES 24 FEV

OCEANUS SEMINAR SERIES | Ana Oliveira | 24 Fev | 11h30

Title: Mini-brains in a dish: a model for psychiatric disorders.

Name: Ana Osório Oliveira

Brain organoids are emerging models to study complex psychiatric and neurological diseases.
In particular, we are interested in the interplay between neurons and glia (namely astrocytes) cells for the development and maintenance of appropriate brain circuits. Generating brain organoids from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) from patients and matched controls have been valuable in understanding the underlying cell and molecular mechanisms that cause these complex disorders. By developing this model, we have been able to functionally characterize the role and (dys)function of astrocytes in Schizophrenia.
