Title: Barnacle Biology

Take a short research journey with Dr. Dan and his friends. Learn about barnacles, their glue and their interactions with novel materials.  We combine evolutionary principals with comparative approaches to get an idea of how barnacles work.  We take advantage of modern medical research and fancy toys.  Barnacles are a way to gain new perspectives on how the marine world works and how marine communities are organized.  Next stop: Functional Microbiomics.

Dr Dan Is interested in how the world works.  He likes long walks on the beach and visiting with marine communities.  Barnacle culture and working with engineers and his barnacle models is most of his. livelihood.  The rest is plastics, proteomics microbiomes and toxicology, chemical and behavioral ecology especially of crabs. He does science because it is fun.

 

The seminar will take place at CIIMAR headquarters (Boca da Baleia Auditorium).
