The more the merrier: evaluation of Nocuolin A anti-cancer activities in 2D and 3D cell cultures
Lígia Sousa (CIIMAR)
Cyanobacteria are versatile microorganisms that ubiquitously inhabit terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. They adapt to external threats by producing a huge variety of secondary metabolites, which can be exploited for pharmacological uses on humans. The compound Nocuolin A (NocA) was isolated from the cyanobacteria strain Nodularia sp. LEGE06071 and the anti-cancer activity of NocA was analysed on colon carcinoma cells (HCT116) cultured as monolayer or as multicellular culture systems (MTS). Recent advances on the molecular mode of action of NocA will be presented.
