O CIIMAR is the host of the international conference BLUEandGREEN Legacy - Adding Value to Marine Resources, taking place on the October 1st at CIIMAR headquarters (Porto Cruise Terminal).

 

The international conference “BLUEandGREEN Legacy – Adding value to Marine Bioresources”, organized by CIIMAR, will be determinant to the construction of the Nacional Roadmap. This conference will include several key international speakers in the field of Marine Biotechnology, Bioeconomics and Circular Economy.

 

The conference will be determinant for the construction of a Nacional Roadmap of opportunities in Marine Biotechnology, contributing to the European Bioeconomy.

 

With their largely unexplored biodiversity, our seas and oceans present a high potential for innovation in two fronts: the better understanding of marine and maritime resources and its biodiversity, and a more efficient exploitation of their economic and scientific potential. Marine biotechnology is the enabling tool that will allows the translation of this potential into real products and services. Thus, boosting marine innovation through biotechnology-related activities is fundamental for the sustainable exploitation of these resources and for the stimulation of economic growth. This context leads us to the central the need to establish a road map of opportunities in the marine biotechnological area in Portugal contributing to the European Bioeconomy Strategy.

 

The international conference BLUEandGREEN Legacy will work on three main areas:  the future perspectives of marine biotecnology, its contribution to the Bioeconomy and Sustainable Development and to gather nacional biotecnology projects, labs and investments for the creation of the Biotechnology Roadmap.
