CIIMAR disclose genome of the freshwater pearl mussel

A CIIMAR study by the researchers Elsa Froufe and André Santos discloses the genome of the freshwater pearl mussel (Margaritifera margaritifera).

Known for its pearls, the freshwater pearl mussel sees its genome sequenced for the first time by an international consortium led by a team from CIIMAR researchers. Although it is just a first step towards understanding the species, the sequencing of the freshwater pearl mussel genome now published in the DNA Research magazine of Oxford University Press is like discovering the rare pearl hidden inside.
