EU Knowledge Valorisation Week 2021

This Monday, April 26, was marked the World Intellectual Property Day. At a time when economic recovery is vital, this year’s celebration highlighted the critical role of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and their Intellectual Property (IP) rights in the development of more competitive and resilient businesses.
Aligned with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) motto: “IP & SMEs: taking your ideas to the market”, CIIMAR endorses the increasing relevance of SMEs in their research, development and innovation (RDI) activities.
The evolution of CIIMAR's IP portfolio is a clear evidence of the co-creation potential in success of RDI protection and valorisation processes, registering 15 filed patents, 5 of which involving SMEs in the blue bioeconomy sector.
CIIMAR’s patented inventions focus on a diversity of new bioactive compounds isolated from marine microorganisms, in particular from the LEGE-CC culture collection, for the treatment of malaria, for protection against UV radiation, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-obesogenic and antifouling agents. With focus on Aquaculture, the filed patents aim to protect technologies for precision aquaculture, probiotics, novel ingredients and innovative methods for aquafeed formulation, ensuring the sustainability and competitiveness of aquaculture systems and products.
Between April 26 - 30, 2021, the European Commission connects policy makers and stakeholders from across Europe to promote dialogue on the Knowledge Valorisation and showcase strategies, tools and skills to accelerate value creation for the benefit of society.
