Six CIIMAR scientists at the top of the most influential worldwide
The ranking prepared by researchers at Stanford University (United States of America), published at the end of 2020, highlights six CIIMAR researchers among the most influential worldwide: Aires Oliva Teles, Helena Peres, Carlos Azevedo, Carlos Vale, Lucia Guilhermino and Vitor Vasconcelos.
The analysis covered about 7 million scientists, with a ranking of the top 100,000 having been drawn up, although the published list features just the best 2%. The list includes 160,000 researchers, from 149 countries, in 22 scientific disciplines and 176 subdisciplines. 385 are affiliated with Portuguese institutions.
The ranking, published in the article “Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators” (Ioannidis, JPA, Baas, J., Boyack, KW), available from PLOS Biology, is based on more accurate standardized citation metrics, with the purpose of combating abuse of self-citation. The number of citations allows to assess the impact and consolidated influence of a given scientist or institution in the progress of scientific knowledge. The selection derives from an exhaustive analysis of research data from the mid-90s of the last century to 2019.
