MAELSTROM working on the Bubble Barrier in the North region of Portugal

In the scope of the EU-funded project MAELSTROM (Smart technology for MArinE Litter SusTainable RemOval and Management), the Interdisciplinary Centre for Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR) and The Great Bubble Barrier, are working together with other project partners to decide the best location to implement the Bubble Barrier in the North region of Portugal. This one of the technologies that will be tested in the project to intercept and collect litter pollution before it reaches the ocean.
CIIMAR hosted The Great Bubble Barrier visit to Portugal for a full week, and they analyzed several estuaries where the Bubble Barrier can be implemented and have a major impact in Marine Litter reduction on coastal ecosystems. This will be one of the MAELSTROM actions towards a plastic free ocean, contributing to the conservation of the marine ecosystems.
Following-up this visit, the MAELSTROM is close to have a final demo site for The Great Bubble Barrier, therefore accomplishing a major milestone of the Project!
Stay tuned to soon find out where The Great Bubble Barrier will be deployed!
