CIIMAR researchers find that fats are the main fuel that dolphin sperm use to swim.

 

The international consortium led by scientists from CIIMAR-UP and FCUP, makes a significant advance in the understanding of the energetic physiology of sperm in Cetaceans and demonstratesthat lipids (fats) are the primordial fuel of these cells for movement in the fertilization process in dolphins.

The preferential use of fat as an energy source in dolphin sperm is a pattern that has never been seen in any other mammal. Know more about this work yhrough the link.
