CIIMAR team decodes the mackerel genome

An international consortium led by CIIMAR makes significant progress in the study of mackerel biology research.
After having decoding the genome of the sardine in 2018, the team of CIIMAR researchers used next-generation technologies to produce the first high-fidelity mackerel genome. This new resource, will allow to assess the genetic diversity of wild mackerel stocks. This will not only allow to assess the local impact of fishing practices, but also to understand how to enhance natural mechanisms for stock recovery.
