CIIMAR representatives at the UN Oceans Conference

Between June 27 and July 1, many scientists, political actors, organizations, companies and activists gathered in Lisbon for the United Nations Oceans Conference - one of the largest global conferences dedicated to the ocean theme.

CIIMAR had 5 of its representatives at the UN Oceans Conference: Ana Paula Mucha and Isabel Sousa Pinto (both researchers and directors at CIIMAR), Joana Xavier (researcher at CIIMAR), along with Susana Moreira and Joana Moreira Silva (Research and Innovation support at CIIMAR).

CIIMAR representatives joined other CIIMAR members representing the University of Porto since the Ocean is a topic of strategic relevance to U.Porto: Vitor Vasconcelos, Marta Correia da Silva and Francisco Taveira Pinto.

Under the theme "Save the Oceans, Protect the Future", the week-long conference called for action for the oceans and urged world leaders and decision-makers to increase ambition, invest and mobilize partnerships for scientific and innovative approaches and solutions to reverse the decline in ocean health.
