CIIMAR researcher Raquel Ruivo participated in a multidisciplinary team that created a tool for the detection of lipids in living cells. 

 

The multidisciplinary team in which the CIIMAR researcher took part also included other researchers from the University of Aveiro. The team developed a family of markers for use in fluorescence microscopy of cells in culture or whole organisms, including living cells. 

 

Due to the importance of the ability to detect and mark lipids inside cells and its uses in applied research, medical diagnosis, and on the development of drugs, the results of this work may enable future applications and solutions for the diagnosis and fight against metabolic diseases resulting from lipid accumulation
