CIIMAR spin-off Fykia Biotech is among the 8 startups that made it to the final of the 929 Challenge program.

 

The 929 competition is an intensive two-week program organized by the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries. With the aim of transforming new ideas into high-potential businesses, the teams participated in an online bootcamp for two weeks, through which business opportunities between China and Portuguese-speaking countries were discussed with the support of different mentors. The teams defined, validated and developed a sustainable business model using the Lean Startup methodology.

 

This is a startup competition focused on building bridges between China and Portuguese-speaking countries through sustainability-oriented businesses. Teams from China and Portuguese-speaking countries submitted their ideas and the 8 finalists were selected to present their projects to investors at an event in Macau on October 28, 2023. There will be prizes for the top three winners. 

Fykia Biotech will be represented by CIIMAR researcher Ana Rita Vieira who will present a pitch on the development of biofertilizers based on microalgae with applications in situations of saline stress.
