Irene Martins holds a PhD in Ecology and is an expert in marine ecosystem modelling. In January 2017, she joined CIIMAR as an Assistant Researcher, where her main job is to develop numerical models for coastal and marine systems aiming at predicting the effects of multiple stressors (climatic changes, pollutants, plastics, invasive species and others) on the function of those ecosystems. She is interested in learning and using new numerical tools to understand marine ecosystems and estimate uncertainty associated to predictions. Ultimately, she aims at contributing to advice stakeholders and the public on the sustainable use of marine and coastal ecosystems.
